What does bakeware mean to you? Does it just mean cookware for cakes, cookies, and muffins or does it also mean roasting pans, au gratin dishes, etc.?
I ask because I have a category on a website and I am not sure if bakeware is appropriate. It doesn't have any cakes or cookie stuff. It is all au gratin, roasting pans, etc. kind of stuff.

I say bakeware for metal baking pans like cookie sheets, muffin tins, cake pans; and ovenware for glass or ceramic oven-safe cooking vessels. Roasting pan, eh? Baking pan. I have spoken. "-) -- http://www.jamlady.eboard.com, updated 1-27-2006, The Best Dead Spread Yet

Bakeware means just what it implies, both the definitions in your first paragraph fit fine. Any container that's used to bake could be reasonably classified as bakeware and making an au gratin dish or a roast is certainly as much a form of baking as making a cake, cookies, or pie.

Thanks. I never thought of ovenware.
You could even use ovenware to cover both types. Just send the check to Barb Schaller. . . . -- http://www.jamlady.eboard.com, updated 1-27-2006, The Best Dead Spread Yet
Note that some cookware can fit into more than one category, and a casserole dish is probably one of them where, depending on how the dish is made, it may be used for baking and cooking on the stovetop, and maybe even for serving food.

Bakeware = anything you can bake food in. In general, oven-going, as opposed to stove-top.

Ovenware is a more general term... to me, bakeware means the metal pans, but ovenware could be pyrex or ceramic - just something made to go in the oven.
