  1. Hi, looking for some tips for my friend. We've started walking & she's a heavy gal. Been walking
daily for over a week & we're up to about 2.4 mi.

Her outer calves really start hurting when we walk. I have an idea of what she's feeling because I
get a teeny bit of it myself. When I have her do very gentle foot flexes, flexing in is a jolt, so
that tells me the muscle get really short & tight.

I've gotten her to warm up with a stroll & some gentle stretches, but it doesn't seem to be
    helping much.

    Any thoughts?

    Thanks! Trish

  2. Perhaps you are doing too much, too soon, too fast, too often -- especially if this is new activity
for her after being very sedentary. Try adding stretching sessions after a shower/bath. Try slowing
down. Or having a rest day. Check the shoes -- do they fit? provide good support?

This is a long-term (life-long) project, so don't rush to get to some
    speed/distance/frequency goal! bj

  3. concentrate on your stride!! Make good passes, if you where showing the bottom of your sole to the
person that walks behind you. Use toe trust, land on your heel and move in one motion to the grand
toe! Think by every step you take, and in a while it becomes natural.

I am a big walker to, and I know you must have good shoes!! For a heavy walker you must have motion
control shoes. Saucony Grid Stabil LE Brooks Beast Karhu Walker Asics gel MC plus eventually Hanwag
Lima gore (a good shoe build for walking and big people) ask for motion control shoes regards
