Got one of those, but reddish. see link. it was given to my daughter second
hand, who wore it for years then passed it on the her mum who still wears
it. Still looks fine, only slightly faded.

Your mum's not wrong. Years ago I crocheted a jumper for my father and
it was sheer murder. It weighed a ton and kept going out of shape; the
latter may have been just me though.

or something simmilar from any coastal region where there is any
tradition of knitting. I don't know of any that match your description,
the nearest would be an Aran of some description.

I have one Icelandic and two Brenires, and they are excellent jumpers,
warm, comfortable and water-repellent.

Dale of Norway (and various other Norwegian manufacturers) turn out
loads. They're very nice, and they're very warm, but they certainly
ain't cheap (unless you're at the factory shop, but being in Dale up the
road from Bergen that may not be practical...).

Wife or sweater ??

I expect my oiled wool Norwegian sweater would still be usable if I
hadn't thrown it out when fleeces became available.
It was never terribly comfortable and made me sweat when I did wear it.
