That would never happen because we are hard-core dedicated athletes who
laugh in the face of adversity, never say die, and give 110% for god
(Gary Ablett), Queen (the band) and country (and western, we play both
types of music).

Ok maybe there may have been a few weeks where there has only been one
rider, but I can't recall any total cancellations. I think we just add
on for the next week then it's easier to trace back to when our birthday is.

I think that this is indeed a deeply philosophical topic - made more so
by my need to catch up on two days of caffeine-deprivation. Assuming
no-one turned up, then I reckon next week will be "LA(5) Reloaded".

ahem... I was the only one there! You're all soft! I still went and only got a little bit wet for 10 minutes or so.

In true aus.bicycle tradition I had on my '[censored] booties', my prorace socks from probikekit (I ordered 2006 model white but got 2005 model bright green), I was riding my early model TCR twitchy machine of death, complete with Shimano low spoke count 540 wheels that break if you even look at them, I waved at everyone and noone waved back, and a commuter type on a MTB with panniers tried to wheelsuck so I gave him my best roadie snarl 🙂

It wouldn't surprise me to find that even Brisbane gets substantially more
rain than Melbourne. It's always amusing to hear Sydney residents talk about
how rainy Melbourne is when their annual rainfall is substantially higher
than ours. Colder, sure but not wetter.

Out of Melbourne, Sydney and Perth, Mel gets the least rain, and Perth gets
the most. OTOH Perth gets very little rain in Summer (this summer coldest
since 1959, ave max 27.x, most rain since 2000, 45 mm for Dec-Jan-Feb). Ten
years ago they were selling "I survived 186 days without rain" T-Shirts in
Perth. Even better, because of the local weather and wind patterns, Perth
gets something like 70% of its rain at night. So we can have 18 days of rain
in July whilst enjoying 25 days of sunshine in the same month. :-)

Good on you for showing up. Like I said via SMS, remember you're faster
on your own than with us... with us, you would've been saturated - we
would've still been riding when the [censored]-down came through.

I woke up at 430, looked at the pounding rain outside my window,
thought about it, and decided that 4hrs sleep wasn't enough, so went
back to a warm bed (sorry to disappoint, not as hardcore as Chuck
Norris.). Fast forward a couple of hours and I ziptied my mudguard to
the new fixie and rode like the wind so I didn't miss my train.

Tonight I'll try to squeeze the front guard on as well, which will stop
all rain from falling over Brisbane, guaranteeing the next LA wide fine
weather

Number of days of rain is far more important than total rainfall. We
have the good sense to have lots of rain, very infrequently. ;-)

Wednesday was a pretty wet day, but I discovered that packing my rain
jacket and putting the waterproof cover over my backpack was enough to
prevent rain from disrupting my commute to uni, then several hours later
to Enoggera, then another 6 hrs later back to Bulimba - a total of
50km. Thanks for doing the rightie and keepin' us dry :-)

Ahhh, situation normal on the ride this morning! If we're going to continue
meeting for a social ride on Friday mornings, then we should at least try
and conform with the Brisbane Cyclists' Code of Conduct, that is; there is
no need for you to acknowledge any other cyclist on the road, greetings are
a sign of weakness and should be avoided at all costs.

No problems, after all the time I spent polishing and waxing my new
fixie, every time it's hit the road there's been rain and mud
spattering it all over, poor thing deserves better. Bath time this
weekend, and it might be the third week in a row that the chain gets
ultrasonically cleaned.... overkill?

Wet weather bonus is skidding practice, much easier to lock it up and
work on form and style.
