Someone mentioned a website where you could find ipod playlists and
other such stuff that was categorized by beats per minute so that you
could have a good workout playlist, and, I think, also had information
on how to figure out how many beats per minute various songs had.

Do this:
a) Play song
b) Tap foot to beat for 15 seconds
c) Multiply foot taps by 4
From someone who almost blew a left ventricle while running red lights
to the turbocharged tempos of AC/DC and Van Halen, be warned that
synchronizing cadence to the beats of your favorite ditties encourages
reckless riding!
Another foible of cycling to songs, particularly for those very
responsive to sound incentives, is apparent when a song shifts into a
bridge or chorus and the tempo shifts right along with it. Just as
you're preparing to out sprint your opponent to victory, the blistering
beat of your speed-metal soundtrack suddenly brakes and plods along in
funeral dirge mode, dragging down your energy output to that of a
corpse.
Perhaps you should just cycle along to the sounds of the street.
