I'm totally thrashed from a ride earlier today out in the wastelands of the
Owyhee mountains. They're the white, rugged line of peaks to the south of
the valley. A group of about 10 very good riders. Early on, it was clear
I'd spend most of the time on sweep. Sweeping myself. And what an array of
bikes. Turner, Titus, Yeti and Ventana were well represented. And not a
strutting peacock in the bunch. (I'll just have to write it up, it was so
good)

If nowhere had a middle, that would be it. Even saw herds of wild horses,
but not another soul. Tough, fun, occasionally technical, lots of flats
and technicals amongst the group, occasionally fast swoopy stuff that
looked just like Fruita. And it's so far off the Barney path, the
singletrack was never wider than a foot. I didn't leave anything on the
table, so good to read about your venture before I have another hydration
unit and fall over somewhere.

I saw your pics (somewhere else 😉). How far from Boise is that? What
was the temp? Looked like around 50-55. Would that be considered desert?

the middle of fricking nowhere, I can guarantee you. Hubby goes boating in
that country, and it's a among some of the more remote in the lower 48.

Some pictures are going up on the ID mtbr forum.

It's about 40 minutes south of town just over the Snake River. Started
about 30 degf, and warmed up to 52 by the end of the ride. It was kinda
brutal at times, with the group experiencing some blood, broken parts,
snakebites, punctures, and a whole lot of great riding. I had this silly
leak in my front tire. It would go flat every 30 minutes, so I went through
about 6 CO2 cartridges, trying to put off replacing the tube.

ride for a forty minute drive and you consider that "middle of nowhere"?
Sheesh! Forty minutes doesn't even get me to Delaware and a hint of
hill and I ride there most of the time.

LOL! Good guess on the temps! Once you cross the Snake, you're really
outside civilization. It's so remote the Air Force uses it for survival
training and bombing practice. It's an hour from Boise proper, but I live
20 mins south toward the desert already, so we can get there in 40 minutes
pretty easy at 60mph. ENDLESS trails, with the big issue being not getting
lost. Huge canyons, amazingly vast, widepopen vistas, sharp year-round
snowcapped peaks for miles and miles and miles, some rivers, waterfalls,
granite spires, you name it. It's a great winter alternative when our local
trails are too muddy or snowy.

Oh come on now. That wouldn't be me. You can't change someones
personality, you can only adjust yourself to deal with others

any fun all mellowed out. Even when I drank copious amounts of beer I
was a hyperactive type-a nut case.

When I worked for Allied-Signal (back in the day) we used to have to
walk around with a pin on badge of our Myers-Briggs results so that
others would know how to deal with you. We even had stickers on our
hard hats. By the way, the color associated with INTJ is red. Figues
huh? You can only imaging the [censored] I had to put up with because it
matched my hair color.

Except you missed the part where I say that the dumbass who parked his
bike blocking the trail entrance came very close to having his bike run
over by me. He had about two more seconds of trackstand... This tool
has the whole forest to park his bike and chooses the absolute worst
place in a one mile radius. What's up with that? Why do feebs like
that not think about other trail users? I liken it to this, would they
park their car effectively blocking a whole street?
