A while back you said you had a Powertap SL built up with Sapim CX-Ray 2X spokes. How's that working out for you? Did you have to have the hub slotted for those spokes? Do you know if those are readily available, or are they something that will be a pain to get hold of? Would you use the same spokes if you did it over?

Thanks for any imput,

Sapim CX-Ray spokes as well as DT Aero Speed spokes fit a normal hub that hasn't been slotted. Slotting the PT hub will void the warranty and potentially damage the hub.
Both these types of spokes are fairly readily available (at least in the UK, and i can't see why not elsewhere).
I have one PT wheel built with Sapim CX-Rays and will have another built in the future with them (or i may try the DT Aero Speed - simply for a change!)
yep, I had my shop build me a DT Swiss RR 1.1 rim w/28 CX-Ray 2x/ alloy nips on the PT SL at the beginning of November. No need to slot the holes - which would void the warranty anyway. I've put 3300 miles on it (including some rollers/ trainer time.) So far it's been a great build, probably right around 1000 gms, plenty stiff for my 145 lbs, never feel like it's a handicap in the few races I've done so far this year. I ride and race on poor NorCal farm roads and it's held up very well.
I did manage to break one non-drive spoke during a sprint. At the time, my freehub was a bit loose, don't know if that played a role. The CX-Rays were a bit of a b*tch to get. Actually the ones for the PT SL wheel were no problem, got 'em in a week, but it took 2.5 months to get the ones for the matching front wheel delivered. They're also very expensive. However, they look sharp, they're very light, and take a very high tension. Would I use them again? Meh, probably. But DT Aerolites are supposed to pretty nice as well, just not as bling. 😄
Thanks for the input. Where about in NorCal? I'm out in Merced, but that's more central valley. Nothing but poor farm roads.... 😉
I'm in Petaluma, ride in Sonoma/Napa/ West Marin. But this time of year I'm racing down your way almost every weekend - was in Fresno for Pine Flat RR last weekend (mmm, 38F and raining, nice!), Merced this weekend for Snelling, and Merced again next weekend for McLane. Don't think I can endure four weekends in a row of Holiday Inn Express, so I'm passing on the Central Valley Classic. :p btw, the Aerolite DT's are probably a better alternative than the Aero Speed since they're considerably lighter. Well, that's if 80gms is considerable. 🙄

Ah, yes. I'll be doing all of the above. I'm signed up for the Cat 4 at Snelling and McLane. I've done a fair amount of riding up your way. I have family up there and try to ride Anadelle (sp?) whenever I can. I saw Levi last winter on a really nice full suspension Litespeed, putting the serious hurt on a webcor guy. I got to chat with him for a few minutes, very nice guy.
