Is there a knack to taking the Q/R wheel off bikes. Once the quick release wingnut is released do you have to squeeze the brakes together to release the brake cable from the catch. I just managed to do this but now cannot get the cable back into the catch.

No, I can only just get the cable back into the latch on my mtb v-brakes. This is due to how close the blocks are set to the rim. To make it easier screw in the adjusting barrel on the brake lever to free more cable. If the barrel is already screwed all the way in then you will either have to struggle until the brake blocks wear down a bit or undo the cable clamp and release a bit more cable. Don't forget to screw out the adjusting barrel afterward.
