I was recently given a pair of unused Shimano PD-M505 clipless pedals and cleats fo my commuter MTB and now need to try and track down some relatively inexpensive shoes somewhere in Melbourne (I'm just a poor programmer, so price is a fairly important factor 🙂
Can any one suggest anything, or give me an idea of how much I should be expecting to pay?

Rebel, usually have some half decent stuff going at good prices, as im finding out this morning with the stuff I am ordering for my mountain bike, talk to Kerry at Phantom Cycles... he has some great deals!
Melbourne Bicycle Centre in Clifton Hill had a heap of old stock Nike shoes that they were selling off from $70, but limited sizes. I got a pair of Katos, but find they are not that comfortable for me. Often bike shops sell off remainders of stock if they only have a size or two left. Just a matter of hunting around. I don't think I've ever paid full price for cycling shoes, for while anyway.

Cheers. Yeah, I didn't think I was going to get away for less than $90/$100 at rock bottom. Just means that I have to wait a couple of weeks for sufficient funds (sigh). Thanks for your help.
They often have bins of oddball NOS shoes they want to get rid of, or even sale items on current shoes.
I picked up a pair of low-end Shimano MTB shoes for about $100 a couple of years back.. they've served me well for commuting.
The Clifton Hill Melbourne Bicycle Centre mentioned earlier is my main LBS so i'll probably drop in there after payday. Just itching to swap those pedals over I guess 🙂

Hmm, good question. Im not sure how the cycling shoe sizes work, but I'd be about a 9 in regular mens shoes if that helps.
I vaguely remember seeing that SHM in the city had Adidas (?) shoes for 30% off.... I can't remember I wasn't really paying attention....
As someone said, most shops are dumping some oddment shoes at any given time. If you're a cheap [censored] or have a family to support, it's worth rooting around in the mysterious pile of boxes.

Normally I take a 41 or 7 (I know I have small feet, the same size as my wife's), but for cycling shoes it's good to have a bit more toe space as my feet seem to swell a bit. Which I believe is not uncommon for cyclists.
Anyway, I assume you'll get down to Clifton Hill. If you do find that 42s fit and you like the Katos there (not Kato II or Kat III that they also have), then maybe we can deal.

Hmmm, just had a look inside my asics, and they are 42.5. I'll ride down to Clifton Hill this weekend and have a look and let you know.
