We should be surprised that you haven't had a flat in 10 days? I get roughly
one flat every 3k miles or so. I guess you could be riding 300 miles/day...

I get flats every couple of hundred miles... regardless of the tire -
goatheads. I've only had one flat in the past four years that wasn't a
thorn... small piece of metal sliced through the tire and tube.

I tried some "armored" tires but hated the feel. So I went back to what
roles nicely..It all has made me really fast at flat fixing!

Anybody making tire savers these days? Not that you can't make your own
easily enough.

I went over a drain cover on the first flat that obviously pinched the tube
and the second it just went down ,maybe I pinched the tube but it was 10
miles on. I read some reviews on Roadcycling com and punctures seem
prevalent on Contis the correspondents wern't impressed

Well, "run over the drain cover at the same speed and angle with the
Michelins"! <g>

What size are the tires? How much do you weigh? If you're popping tubes
on regular routes, it's time to go to a bigger tire, assuming you were
using normal inflation pressure. --D-y

Get back to me when you have a reason that the tire casings influence
greatly pinch flats and sudden decompressions. Sounds more like cheap
tubes or someone running at too low pressures - or simply doesn't
know how to get the tube out of the way of a tight tire.

And unless you accidentally reseated a valve, I don't quite get the
unexplained flat thing. The only unexplained flat I know about is when
the bike shop has to fix it for you and they think you won't
understand the explanation. If you fix it yourself, you're an idiot
for not following a flat that 'just went down' until you have an
answer.

Get back to me when you have a reason that the tire casings influence
greatly pinch flats and sudden decompressions. Sounds more like cheap
tubes or someone running at too low pressures - or simply doesn't

Yes, to the point that even those that don't deserve it usually don't
complain. BTW, I'm the easy one around here, all peace and light. I
haven't really, really insulted anyone on rbr since the first Gulf
War.

This is rec.bicycles.racing - and you want to blame pinch flats on the
tire. While not 100 percent the case perhaps, I'm guessing that in
99.99 %, the only way that would be true is if you mounted the tire
wrong - putting the inner tube pinched to begin with - or ignored a
problem that should have been visual, like an imperfection at the tire
seating. Only the latter would be the tire's fault.

Now we have at least one bike shop owner that probably sees more flats
in a week than I'll see for quite a while, so if they see it
otherwise, let them speak up. Personally, I fail to see that your
question was anything but a deliberate lead in to slap one tire or
promote the other. I'd cut you slack as a possible newbie, but then
you had to do that thing about 'correspondents weren't impressed.'

OK Curtis, apologies . Youre probably right I did pinch the tube putting it
in but it was a bloody freezing morning and fingers were cold. But the
Conti sidewalls do seem thinner than the Michelins
