I road today too. I also got into a fight on the ride because some
people don't understand what it is to be a hypocrite and get mad when
they are called one. I also got into a scuffle with another person who
said, "why are you even on my ride".

A fun day indeed. Did it stop me? Hell no!

Yeah, very funny. I even got up early this a.m. to try and keep my
, after having ridden hard all week, hoping to catch even a glimpse of
the elusive, reclusive G-Man. When I got up, I felt hung over and
dizzy, head pounding, couldn't hardly walk a straight line, and hadn't
drank anything last night stronger than good coffee!

Well, G-Man, awesome to hear you're back after it. Tell me all about
it over a barley drink on Monday.

When you're a guy who is 5'5" and 145#, there are rarely times it's
evenly matched unless it's a female. 😉

The guy was considerably bigger than me (height and weight). I stood my
ground while he was thumping his chest against me. Another guy came and
pulled him away. I'm not afraid to fight and I do have a brown belt
(too lazy to go for black). My general rule is wait for him to pop me,
dial 911, and have him arrested for assault. Especially, when there are
10 witnesses standing there.

The great thing was watching the mtb club "owner" (it's not an
incorporated organization) stand there smiling (he hates me). What a
great leader he is.

The immaturity that abounds around here is unreal. There are egos the
size of Mount Everest. Is it like that in other places? Why do people
need an attitude to ride a friggin bike?

No, not here. I've infiltrated many groups in the last 20 years, from
pro XC and DH racers in the beginning, to mellow just wanna ride groups,
to everything in between, and have never ridden with the type of people
you describe. Either you're seeking them out or there is a huge
difference between the coasts.

No, it was MTB. It's an on going thing. I will continue to be on his
ride, too. Like I said, I am not intimidated and there are plenty of
people on those rides I do get along with.

I'm definitely not seeking them out. When I started riding with them
over three years ago they seemed like a mellow just want to ride group.
Once I started getting a little better on the bike, getting attention
from my website, and being noticed for the advocacy I was helping with,
the leadership attitude changed drastically. Apparently, they want
you as long as you do the work and don't get noticed. Like I said, it's
an ego and control thing. When asked why the club wasn't organized and
had elected officers, the "buddy list owner" responded that the club was
his intellectual property. I think that about sums it up. I believe
this is more of a riding clique than a club. I think the IRS should
investigate what happens to the $20 each person gives for membership as
well as grant money received from the State and other incorporated
organizations such as IMBA. Something is rotten in Jersey and it ain't
the smells coming from the refineries.

ditto to that. Never a problem with other riders. Even when I yell at
trail-cutting barneys or no-helmet idiots. MC riders have run me off
the trail, and laughed about it, but not fellow mtb'ers. I think it's
a west coast laid back thing.

the beginning, they were all cool. Nowdays there is the hedonistic
racer-turd bunch who are so "serious" they don't take a nanosecond to
say "hi" to others on the trail. The thing is that we normally trip to
the places they don't ride. I rode with an old tyme racer recently and
they were just as cool as I'm sure they have always been.

As far as Mitch's dilemma goes, ride solo or ride with friends. Clubs
seem to get too many attitudes, no matter wh is in them or running
them. The bickering here between the advocacy groups and their
leadership (it's even in open forums, so you know it's bad) is enough
to make anyone with half of a brain stay away from their BS. That
said, yesterday, my friend and I cleared more than a couple of

Very true, JD. The past few months I have been on my own or with
invited people I get along with. The racer groups have their own clique
and I've never been part of that anyway.

I guess this is why I like traveling and riding with the folks on this
board from time to time. It's true no-holds-barred I just like to ride fun.

Now, when is my next trip already?
