What do yall think about the Lemond Poprad. I want to get a good all around bike, that can be used for light cyclocross and road. It seems that the only problem with the bike is that it is a little heavy, that was with Reynolds steel, but now it is made with True Temper OX Platinum. I do not know much on this weight but if anybody can please help me out with this bike. Also, the bike seems to cost around $1200 but I am not to sure as that is with the old model. I went to road bike review and everyone seemed to like it except for the cranks which Lemond has switched out.
Cyclocross bikes in general are going to be heavier bikes because they need to take the abuse.
Dont know which year you're looking at but the 06 did change out the cranks to a slightly better set. The Race as opposed to the Selects. The one thing I dont like about the bike is the wheelset. They are nice for strictly road but if you do plan on taking them off road, be ready for alot of truing. They are nice though just a pain to keep true.
True Temper is also steel. Slightly better than the older reynolds 853. Its lighter and more comfortable.
If weight is an issue, check out Trek's XO 1. Its an aluminum frame which will be lighter than the steel and comes with the same components as the Poprad. Its listed at $1320 but I'm sure bike shops will have it much lower. Just another option...
Get the steel bike. Steel will outlast Aluminum if you plan on keeping the bike for a long time. Lightness is over rated unless you race or are competitive. I have a Ti/Carbon bike VERY LIGHT and an older steel bike Coumbus TSX. I find both of them are great rides. The Ti/Carbon is better in the mountains on very long mt road climbs. The steel bike is just as good a ride overall. Although I like my Ti/Carbon ride I am not sure that the large expenditure was worth it. The True Temper OX Platinum is a good tube set. Go for it.
Thanks, I have heard such great things about steel that I do not think I would go for aluminum. I am not going to be doing too much offroading and I will probably switch to road tires right when I get the bike.

You could have a steel or alum for 20 years and they will both be fine.
But steel will give a completely better feel to riding than aluminum. Aluminum even with carbon forks can give a harsh ride especially if it is not welded properly. I ride trials bikes normally, not time trials, and I have tried aluminum frames and steel frames and nothing feels as good as a properly made steel frame. Which is why I was thinking about getting the Lemond.
