    Define "deep." Do you mean deep like a Mach2CD2, Velocity Escape, or deep as in Zipp 404, or deep
    as in CXP30?

    What are you going to do with the wheel?

    The uci ruled that DIY rims can not be deeper than 2.5 cm's. So all rims you'll find are either NOS,
    or a spare for a built-up wheelset

    When did the UCI rule this? How would the UCI know how a wheel is built and why would it matter to
    them? I'd imagine some of the pro team wheelbuilders do a better job than the big companies.

    Whether it's the UCI's fault or not, there is only one 30mm deep aluminum rim that I know of
    that's readily available, the Velocity Deep V. I've been using one on the track for a while and am
    happy with it.

    The Sun 19A-II Aero is fairly deep at 18.4mm, but other than that the only ones I've seen lately are
    the Campy "replacement" rims for their high end wheels (NOT cheap, but really, really nice).

    Or being manufactured/sold by people who don't case about the UCI's rules - like, for example,
    Velocity, which continues to make their 30 mm Deep V rim.

    Your 404 *wheels* ARE legal under UCI standards, because they have passed the UCI's wheel crash
    test. Wheels of "classic" design - meaning, in part, a rim less than 2.5 cm deep - are automatically
    legal, and don't have to be tested. The only wheels that are illegal are those of non-traditional
    design that haven't been certified by the UCI.

    Hey all,

    How about something like Velocity Deep-V aero rims?

    Is there a point where a rim/wheel becomes too stiff for a larger rider? (215lbs).
