Well, they're called "slotted cleats" and they were for any quill type
pedal, not just track pedals. Here's an example.

I can't believe they've been obsolete for so long people had never seen
them. My first pair were nailed into my shoes.

Those are the rarely seen "mushroom cleats" attached to gay ballet slippers
(alert: redundancy alert).

That's a traditional cleat for use with standard quill
pedals and toeclips. It was considered the very best system
for about a hundred years.

Yep. They'll be fine with those or a few hundred other
toeclip pedals.

I'm so old that I didn't recognize it when posted. I didn't ride for a
couple decades and didn't know they made an "adjustible" cleat. It
makes since in an evolutionary way, but I thought they went directly
from nailed on cleat to adjustible clipless... er, clips.
