  1. LOW CARB IS NOT HEALTHY! YOU need carbs to fuel your muscle cells...
glucose stored as glycogen in the muscle cells is the first source of
energy the body uses during physical activity. think about this.. high
protein diets have benefits, but things that are high protein tend to
also be high in saturated fats like red meat, cheese, eggs, bacon... It

is awesome that you have dropped so much weight and all, but think what

your body is missing.... the brain can only use one source of simple
sugar- glucose.. which you need from fruits, veggies, and so on. also
carbs are the only macornutrient that contain fiber. you should aim for

25-30 grams / day to keep the body feeling full and the GI trac working

properly. I am an exercise science student.. please... head my advice..

complex carbs such as legumes, whole grains (oats, fiber one cereal),
vegetables, and fruits are GOOD for you!!!

From a scientific standpoint, that is. Are his comments accurate in

saying that the brain can only use GLUCOSE and that muscles need
GLYCOGEN in order to function? I have heard, although I don't know how

accurate it is, that if there is no GLYCOGEN present that you body can
still call upon "alternate" fuel sources to supply your muscles.

Wow, I'm impressed! Being on your way to being a gym teacher, why
should we doubt your advice on medical matters? Have you taken the
    course in dodge ball yet?

There is no essential carb....the body can make everything it needs to
function on a zero carb diet, even though we here do eat carbs, typically in

    low carb fruits.

There is rarely a situation where glycogen is not present in a normal person

The body can produce it's own carbs (glucose) and well as ketones which also
    serve as fuel.

Not to mention that about 58% of dietary protein turns to glucose.

    You think about it.

Yeah, it keeps you from burning fat stores.

Not to mention that many cuts of red meat are higher in monounstaturated
fats and poly fats than saturated. Further, these fats have never been
shown to promote disease in the absence of high glycemic levels.

    My brain runs just fine...

The brain prefers ketones, and can get its residual glucose requirement
met by protein converted to glucose.

I'm eating boatloads more salads and veggies to take up the space on my
plate and in my diet that nutrient impoverished, high glycemic starches
    used to fill.

Complex carbs is a phrase that's been discredited. It means nothing in
health or dietary terms, only as a chemical bond descriptor.

Right. Every biochemistry text makes the point that there are only
essential fats and proteins in human nutrition.
