An update. I posted originally back in December, asking people's
opinions on what I should do for a durbable set of road wheels, that
would still be of reasonable weight.
I ended up getting ultegra hubs, DT 2.0/1.8/2.0 spokes, and Velocity
Deep-V rims. 32H up front, and 36H in the rear, with cross-3 all the
way around.
I ordered all the parts, plus a park tensiometer from Lickton's online,
and I really got great service from them (no need to cover it all from
here, but they are a great supplier, with prices as low as you'll find
online).
I got them built up this weekend, with final truing and tensioning
going quite smoothly. I emailed Velocity to ask about tension, and they
said 100kgf front and 110kgf drive-side rear. I've gotten really close
to those numbers, with very little variance. I haven't added them all
up, but I'm thinking I managed a 5% variance, certainly less than 10%.
They're also quite round and true. Perfect dish.
The build went smoothly, as these were probably my 14th and 15th wheels
over the years, but the first time with a tensiometer. Man, what a
great tool to have.
I'm hoping there won't be any more updates, as I'm expecting these
wheels to last me a looooong time.
Anyway, thanks to everyone for all the advice.
