  1. Tilapia which is one of my staples. I have it at least once, maybe twice a
week. I'm doing a simple tarragon butter and baking it. I am tired of all
the usual side dishes. I am *sick* of salads. I feel like a rabbit as it
is. I'm bored with potatoes. I have on hand, turnips, radishes, celery,
onion, garlic, new potatoes, 1 shallot, romaine lettuce (ugh), 1 green and
1 yellow bell pepper, 1 kiwi and a grapefruit.

My mind is blank. Can anyone come up with a side dish for tilapia that
will be wonderful using these ingredients?

If it were me, I'd also have rice on hand and some dried pasta. I'd
make a pilaf with minced onion sweated in butter, rice and a tiny bit
of vermicelli/spaghetti/angelhair broken into little bits and stirred
around with the rice in more butter. Cook in chicken stock. Then I'd
chop the rest of the onion, some shallot, celery and yellow pepper and
cook them in olive oil, add the tarragon and pour over the fish for
baking. Save the grapefruit and the potatoes for breakfast. -aem

I know the feeling, bro. Brain dead, that is.

I've roasted turnips a couple of times lately, and they turned out
pretty good. I peeled and quartered and oiled them. Some salt and
pepper and bake away till they get tender. 30-40 minutes in a medium
oven, IIRC. Now I'm beginning to imagine a turnip gratin with maybe
cream and lemon zest. It'll put the shallot to an interesting use,
    too.

You could make a relish with the grapefruit, radishes, onion, and either
bell pepper (though I wouldn't use both). If you've got cilantro and fish
sauce, those would be good additions (in moderation, of course...a little of
    either goes a long way).

However, if you wanted to do that, I wouldn't use tarragon on the tilapia.
I'd cover it with chopped shallots and garlic, then bake it in parchment or
    foil.

To play with your dinner, unwrap the packets, dislodge a chunk of fish and
put it on a leaf of romaine, spoon a bit of the relish on top, and eat with
    your fingers.

Make your life easy. Since you have the oven on, roast the veggies -
turnip, potatoes, radishes, cvelery, garlic, onion, shallot, peppers.
