  1. I'm a casual cyclist who is looking to get more serious, and I have entered a 25 mile bike ride that is on March 4th. I just got my bike overhauled and everything, but now I'm wondering how to go about training for this ride. It's not a time trial or anything, just a 25 mile ride for charity. Any advice on what I should be doing to prepare for this ride, other than riding every day? All responses will be appreciated! Thanks!

  2. When I first started I thought 10, 14, then 23 miles rides were far. Then I did a 30 miler and thought that it wasn't hard at all. When I discovered that you lose good enough weight with 30 + miles rides, I started doing a lot of 38 to 56 mile rides. I usually burn out at 56 miles.

A 25 miles ride should be real easy. 2 hours at most if you go 12.5 mph. A beginner road biker might do 16 mph avg so that would be 1 hr 33.75 minutes ride.

Try doing 1:30 hr rides after work every Tue or Thr or M W F. Then you can do a long ride on the weekends. Really, 25 miles is no sweat, but to a beginner it's quite a distance.

  3. Thanks for the advice!
