  1. Target's website is listing a 26" chopper-style bike now. It's only
rated for riders up to 230 lbs (sorry, Chalo, you'll just have to
build your own) but it's available off the shelf from a major
    retailer.

And some wonder why bikes aren't taken seriously.

OTOH, there is something to be said for the observation that anything
which gets non-negative publicity for bikes is *potentially* a good
    thing.

  2. I was at Target the other day buying the typical items like dog
sweaters, toothpaste, and socks and checked out the bikes, hoping to
see a half assed hybrid or better, but they've gone back to stocking
only $89 uber [censored] mtbs for adults, nothing else. At leat Wally World,
bless their evil souls, offer a decent path bike (well as good as $150
gets ya) with smooth tires and a chainguard.

That chopper is horrendous, but Costco does does a cruiser/chopper that
if you replaced the bars with Nitto Priest, would be fairly cool. It
doesn't have the back breaking riding position and would be a good
coffehouse ride. $150 or so. Being from Costco, you can just bring it
back when it breaks. Didn't see it on the website, but they've got it
    at my local.

Well, if you don't have a dog, buying them is a little queer, but we
    all have our dirty secrets.

As long as you're not putting them on the cat, we'll look the other
    way.

    Chicken or egg here?

Following the link, I stumbled into Freud, and initially read the
advert's heading as 'Adult Deviant Chopper Bike'. Truth in Advertising!

Hmmm. An online reviewer rates the buy at 5 stars, declaring
"Awesome...I've never been so impressed with something I've bought
    online..."

I dunno, it costs $112 to ship, and at 57 lb shipping weight I can
almost see why. I think ownership of this bike would be its own reward.

  11. Hiya Werehatrack:
Meanwhile, whilst trying to track down the WalMart "Schwinn Varsities"
on line, I noticed they'd a 20" wheel Kent FOLDER. For $99.99 (of
course). Marketed for the 9-12 age range, the web site said. I guess
that's their default setting for 20" wheels.... Is Kent a Pacific
    brand?

    Very Pacific-ocean, but not Pacific-brands.

I note that Target sells a folding 24/26 mtb on their website. ISTR
seeing that model in one of their stores, but as I don't really have
much interest in folders, I didn't look at it very hard.

When I saw the reference to the 57 pound shipping weight I had to go
back and look more closely at the ad, which raises more questions:

    1) Do the decals really say "Adult Deviate Chopper" ? My neighbors are
still a little concerned about the tight black shorts.

    2) Exactly how do the one-speed gearing, vinyl seat, and coaster brakes
make the experience more enjoyable? How does an adult deviate define
    "enjoyable" ?

Friend, if you wear lycra to ride that bike cyclists will be more than a little
    concerned.

  17. Probably some people waiting for a 350 lb rated one to come out!

  18. Am I the only one who noticed it has a "vinyl seat AND coaster brake".

But does it have the look of real metal?

Is this the one that's been raising the eyebrows of many a surviving
    consumer?

  19. satan said:

According to the blurb, those features allow the rider to "enjoy the
experience". This might raise the question of which experience can't
be enjoyed fully with a seat that isn't vinyl.

    Quoted message said:

If so, I'm sure a Look & Feel or other infringement lawsuit will be
filed by some entity that trademarked the term "Real Metal".

    One at a time, perhaps.

Let us hope that Ahnold doesn't get one.
