I have a quick question on cleats. Are the multi release cleats (SH-55/56) better than the single release cleats (SH-51)?

As a first time and very new cleat user, I think the multi-release feature has saved me falling over at least once in the past week.
I would like to hear the views of more experienced cleat users.

When I started out with SPD, I never managed to get the 55's at a comfortable release tension (even tightened as far as they will go), so I ended up switching to the 51's.
The 55's came out too easily, in my opinion, and just didn't give me enough confidence to pull on the cleats which can affect your pedalling technique (or developing your technique if starting out).
I think its just as easy to clip out with the 51's with a loose release setting, and get used to twisting your heel out as it is to go with the 55s.
In the end, SPDs didn't do it for me and about 18mo ago, I switched pedal systems completely and went with Eggbeaters on my MTB - and have never looked back. The feel is so much more intuitive, clip-in/out is easier, and I've never had an unintended release. They are also surprisingly good at letting go of your feet if you have a crash as well, as I have on several occasions.

Thanks for your replies. It sounds like it's a matter of personal preference. I see that the SH-56's have replaced the SH-55's in the multi-release category, but I have no idea what has changed.
