Well its time the TCR2 got an upgraded wheelset - the shimano 540's just dont cut it - especialy with the amount of rust they get.
Have been recommended i get something like the Ritchey Protocols. After doing some research into them & they seem a likely candidate, especialy weighing in at only 1400gms.
Apart from the recall that was made on them mid last '05 can anybody give me some idea of what they are like? some first hand experience would be great!
Or if anyone out there has another option in a good wheelset at around the same price/weight - i am all ears
I will be getting my Ritchey 05 Protocols in a week. But they'll be 10 speed while all my 5 other wheels are 9 speed. So I can't ride them until my bikes built. Maybe in 2 weeks time!
I just got my Ritchey Protocol but I can't ride them cuz my Ultegra 10 bike is not setup and I have to return it for warranty because of a bubble in the carbon fiber.
It seem like the Protocols hub friction is more than the Ksyrium SL but less than the Campy Eurus. It is more aero than both these wheels, and it it is more lighter according to their weight claims. Overall, these wheels on my 06 Raleigh Prestige make it look nice.
Some guy is selling fixed 05 models on ebay for $359 - that's a good deal.

How the hubs spin in your hands is in no way indicative of how they spin under load on the road. You'll have to hit the road to get a true feeling for how they feel.

I have lots of wheels, and my most frictionless hub is the rear wheel hub of a Shimano R535 wheel broken in after more than 1000 miles.
It's hard to tell the difference in friction by how well they roll under load. All my wheels feel the same.
HED 3, Ksyrium SL, Campy Eurus, R535, Xero Lite, Ritchey Protocol <- all of my wheels.
