  1. It ain't a big deal. As you can see I am doing it and Yaweh, Allah or
Zeus are not striking me with lightning. Some people get all bent out
of shape when someone top posts. I am indifferent. I am fine with top,
bottom or in between. Sometimes I am too lazy to look for the response
if people bottom post below a long discussion. However, I am open to
difference and can read messages by Bill Sorni (bottom feedeer) and by
Peter Veccio (top poster) just as well. You can choose to accomodate,
like someone suggested or rebel, like I am doing now. There is only one
god that everyone bows to, and that is Sheldon. If he doesn't tell you
to do something, then it is ok.

What's the big deal? Who made this silly rule, and what stick was lodged up
his or her backside when he or she came up with it?

    Just curious

  2. Top posting, just for fun !!

In my operation, with a few thousand folks writing, and toooooooooo many of
them writing to me or copying to me, top posting is cool.

If you know the deal that's underway, you already know what's underneath.
If you know nothing about it, it gives you a great reason to not read it.

    Top of the tops !!

While you're right, of course ("terms of service" -- give us a
break!), Mr. Press IS correct about your top-posting: it's a PITA.
(See how I just deleted all the other stuff rather than go to the
    trouble of rearranging it all?)

First, thanks. Second, when a thread gets "involved", it's much
easier to follow if people adhere to generally accepted posting
conventions. (Sounds better than rules? I'm sure there's a FAQ
about this, too.) Also helps if people bother to TRIM excess stuff,
as often you'll see like 12 KBs of text and scroll down just to find
    a one-line comment or something.
The idea is to give a NEW READER some idea of what the heck you're
talking about. If they just see something like "That's what I
thought, too" with a whole bunch of quoted stuff below it, how do
they know WHAT you're agreeing with? (Especially if some people in
the thread top-posted while most didn't! That throws /everything/
    off.)
Check out a little program called "Quotefix" for OE. You can set it
to place the cursor at the bottom automatically; I chose not to,
since I like to scroll down and answer point by point (deleting old
stuff along way) -- but it also does some neat stuff like "color
code" reply trees so it's much easier to spot new text, AND give life
to little emoticon thingies by animating 'em. (Thus 8-O becomes a
purple flashy guy and not just an 8 and an 'O'.)

    What was the question?

Top posters believe scrolling down to the bottom of a message to see
to what the writer is responding is convenient, I and most others do
not. Because doing this method is cumbersome and at times
challenging, there is a well known quiz show where the answer is
searching for a question. That is what top posting does to people who
did not author the message to which the response is given.

As you see above, the flow is an obvious chronology that someone new
to the thread can readily follow. You might be unaware that many news
reading programs are structured to do this easily.

Well, there are a couple of respected regular contributors
who chronically top post but it's overlooked, balanced by
their valuable input. Relative nebies get jumped on because
the general consensus is that a thread is more readable with
the older comments first followed by the reply/response.

Fashionable cyclists want to know: When you go to a bike-mob rumble,
what kind of chain should you wrap around your fist? Wipperman or Sram?
Or does Campy vs. Shimano become something like Sharks vs. Jets in this

Like shimano, they learned all they know from the old country, Italia
