At the Ratho Adventure Centre there's a SkyRide, a kind of army
assault course of logs, ropes, nets, etc., to clamber over, except
it's 100 feet up in the air which makes it more exciting. As I
struggle over it, arms burning with fatigue and wondering if I dare
let go to check my heart rate, skinny young girls prance past me in
time to the music on their ipods. Well, they would prance past me if
overtaking was possible, but the overhead safety carriages we're roped
to are single file devices, so the ones ahead go offi nto the distance
and I hold up the ones behind me.

My cardiologist told me that if I wanted to get the maximum mileage
out of my old heart, I had to stop trying to keep up with these
terrifying creatures.

No, she was peddling at a very fast rate, and she could quite easily have
changed up a gear.
