I'm relatively new to cycling. I have just started riding again, and bought myself a new ride. My question is about wheelsets. I bought a 2003 Specialized Elilte Allez 27. I really like the bike, and think it's a good starter bike. I've had it about 3 weeks now and my rear wheel is out of true. I found "www.roadbikereview.com" and see that several people have had trouble with the wheelset that comes on the bike staying true (Alex ALX330). I am a fairly heavy rider (at least right now) at 210 lbs.
Should I think about replacing this wheelset? How hard is it to do myself? How hard is it to "true a wheel"?
If I buy a new wheelset, do the number of spokes equate to a stronger wheel that will keep true for longer? I figure that "light is where it's at", but cost money.
Any input on wheelset theory would be appreciated.
