Well, a little while ago I posted a question about 9sp vs. 8sp. Campy. I posted it because I *thought* I was going to buy a set I saw on ebay. 8 year old chorus levers went for ...... $191!!!
I know this the tech group, but I'm sure some of you guys are price watchers. Any of you know where I could look for campy ergo levers (chorus or daytona/centaur) or maybe a mini build kit at low price? I'm sure some store must have older 9sp stuff or slightly out of date 10 speed. Any year will do except I don't want the older "pointy" style. Whatever I get I intend to swap out to 8sp triple.

Brand new Vecloe are about $150 with cable kit-10s, Mirage(9s) is even less. A Campag rear der and bobs yer uncle.

AS for ebay insanity...I think some view it as gambling or some sort of control trip. I have seen many used bicycle things go for more than a new one at retail(Campagnolo carbon brake-only levers come to mind).
BUT new Campag stuff is not expensive and older stuff is readily available, including 9s levers that can be converted to 8s.

e-bay does have its share of nonsense.

At the moment you have pointy ones, and you want to swap them for roundy ones? You do know you can switch the shift disk in the 8-speed lever to get 9-speed, don't you? Check with Peter. Cheap. You should also be able to get new levers for about the same price, or less, than those e-bay ones (which would be pointy-style, anyway).

With my Christmas money I was bidding on a GPS. I knew that I could find this model for around $189 on line so when it got to $175 I dropped out. It eventually went for $184. I immediately checked Buy-It-Now and found one for $140. Basically by not doing any DD the other guy wasted $44 (and I almost wasted $35).

Any kind of brifters seem to really fetch a premium on eBay. I've acquired an old trek bike and put my old 126mm 6 speed 105 hub wheels onto it, replacing the freehub and cassette to go to 7s, then figured I'd get an old 7s brifter to control it. Haven't seen anything go for less than 8sp Sora is retail, basically.
LBS has a pair they took off the bike I bought with a flat bar earlier this year. I think I'll probably just go get it from them, at least they'll look after me well at the same time.

It's not "nonsense" when you have something to sell.
Brifters, as another poster notes, are 'spensive on ebay. Campy has added upward price pressure due to changing configurations, especially alloy to carbon, and other "price points" concerning the different models' having different bodies, ball bearings v. bushings, and even pierced v. solid finger levers. Plus the pointy/roundie predicament, and the ins/outs of upward/downward 8/9/10 mobility <g>.
I saw a place in the UK earlier this year that had a selection of Ergo levers, new, from three or four different years, including IMS "late" Chorus 9sp, alloy w/bearings. I looked; sorry, the link seems to have been lost in the change to Mac. Google? --D-y

Use the 8s Sora and adjust the RD limit screws to have 7 speeds. Spacing the same.

Buy any Campy 10 shifters and any Shimano rear derailleur and shift Shimano 8 perfectly.
WOW! That's the first time I've seen this! So I just set the derailer adjusting screws appropriately and then use 8 of the 10 clicks huh? That's very cool.
Thanks,
Jim
