Are you just looking for something for running roads; or single track,
twisty, rocky, rooty trails; or trailless open meadows/fields in
unfamiliar terrain? A couple hours, 15 hours continuous?
If needs are minimal, 3- or 4-led headlamps may be adequate. I use
Lightwave 4000 (headlamp version), which is ok on snow-covered trails
I'm familiar with. On non-snow covered trails with rocks and roots or
very open terrain, I definitely want more - probably at least 7 led's.
Here's some that I know some folks use:

I've limited my choices to lamps that can take AA or AAA batteries since
I can get them lithium batteries. They function in cold and have long
shelf life.
If light duration is an issue, balance the amount of light vs battery
duration. Some of the really bright led's (1-, 3-watt) drain batteries
relatively quickly. I haven't heard any feedback on them since people
first started raving about how bright they were - ie. no experience with
duration.

For trail running, I'd suggest a handheld, but otherwise a dual mode
headlamp with a minimum 4 led for the low beam, and a halogen or krypton
bulb for the high beam will work good, as long as the battery is
belt-carried. The low beam will burn forever, but if (when) you lose the
trail, you'll need the high beam to find it again.

I like this one except it takes C/LR14 batteries...
