Need Help Choosing Tire???

Conti GP4000, "Handmade in Germany" 🙂

I've either ridden these tyres, or the slightly older versions.. here's what I think of 'em:

Michelin Pro Race 2: I didn't like them at all. Just didn't have a lot of road feel, but not in a nice/comfortable sort of way. Kind of like they were 'dead', couldn't really feel what sort of grip the road surface was giving you etc.

Open Corsa Evo CX: amazingly grippy, incredibly comfortable, quick, nice ... except that they wear very quickly, and puncture protection is quite poor.

Conti GP4000: I haven't ridden these, but have done so with the GP3000s and GP-4 Seasons (all weather compound version of the 3000s). They were a good compromise between road feel, comfort, protection, speed, ra ra.. and would expect the 4000s to be only better. When my current road tyres wear out, I'll be trying them out for sure.

I was heading towards the Vittoria, mainly because i like the colour combo....but i also want a good speed tire and good wear. But i've heard only good things about the Conti's, and i've got mixed reviews on the Michelin Pro Race. So i not sure what way to go??????

I haven't tried a GP4000; the Pro Race just feels like a slightly above average tyre to me, but I LOVE Open Corsas -- I recommend the slick version, which is the Open Corsa KS.

I'm not 100% sure about the Continental, but the other 2 tyres are more of a race tyre than a training tyre, so I'm not sure you'll be getting high mileage out of them.

I've found that the Vredestein Tricomps provide a good combination of performance, durabilty, reasonable puncture resistance and affordability.

I'm a big fan of the Conti 3000, so will likely try the new 4000s next time, which will be in about 500 miles. I've never had a puncture in 12000 miles with them. Only downside I see is that the 4000s are pricey....but of course tires are so critical to ride, handling, grip and performance that they are no place to go cheap.

You could always try the other tires first and see how they do for you. Whatever choice you make, they will wear out, so you'll get to try something else later.

So far it sounds like the Conti 4000's are the tires most people are using or wanna use. Keep sending reviews!!!!

As far as experience with tires goes, I've only had two:

Bontrager Selects (700x25) - Nasty, cheap, weak, and not very durable (1700miles on the rear)

I moved up to the Conti GP4000's (700x23) and LOVE them. I can tell they stick, handle and roll better. Sorry i can't really comment on the other two, but from what i've experienced with the GP4000's it'd be hard to imagine anything better.
