  1. is it wierd to wear a pro tour team jersey/kit without riding the bike of that team? Example: Wearing a T-Mobile Team jersey/kit, without riding a Giant. Something about it seems like a bit of a fashion faux pas.

Also, what about wearing clothing by a bike company other than the company that makes the bike you ride?

i dont want to pose this question to the style guy from Bicycling magazine, cuz he seems like a tool.

just curious to see people's thoughts...

Wear whatever makes you comfortable is my feeling on the topic, but thats just me.

It is okay, in my opinion. I will wear it if it is comfortable, stylish, quality, and/or on sale!

  4. Wear whats comfortable and you like. Judging from what I hear some riders on this forum say, I think you would get more comments from wearing _everything_ a certain pro rider/team wears. For instance, if you were out there with a Disco kit, Trek Madone, Giro Atmos, Nike gloves, and the Nike Lance shoes, you might hear some jokes. Though I say wear what you like. The important thing is you are out there.

  5. personally i go with a pink leotard, a few random screaming fits and nobody says didly.

Wear what you're comfortable in. As for me I wear the generic Performance or Nashbar jerseys and bibs. I know a dude who wore a postal service kit riding on a postal service bike. What ever. Just don't go running off at the mouth. Then you're surly to be branded a Poser, espcially if by chance you get dropped by the guy on the 1983 Panasonic with toe clips. Then you're screwed.

  7. IMHO It is better to be mixed that not ride at all. What I get a kick out of is the bikers who show up totally about the brand (i.e specialized jersey, shorts, shoes, socks, helmet) and who can't ride to save their lives. I think the thing that amuses me the most about them is remembering when I was one.🙄

I just bought a T-Mobile jersey in November and I ride a Trek.

    OH THE HORROR!!!!!!!!!

Whatever motivates you to ride, DO IT!

  9. Who the heck really cares what you have on? The day it gets to a point where cyclists are more interested in what the others are wearing than the sport itself is the day I'm the first female to win the Tour De France! A bit of tape over my chest, tuck my hair in my helmet, and I'm off man!
Just call me Yentle the road racer!
God! you guys are beginning to behave like the women at Sunday Mass trying to out do one another with what they are wearing and not really paying attention to what the sermon was about!

As long as you wear something, don't worry to mush about it. I live in Amsterdam and there is a well known local guy who cycles or roller blades around the city naked, or with a G-string when it is very cold!

I nearly fell off my bike when I saw him the first time. A strapping 6 foot tall naked guy at 7am on a sunday morning can do that to you.

Kind of puts all these "should I wear a T-Mobile shirt with Nike shorts" type questions into perspective, doesn't it? It's basically what I've been trying to say to these guys but a strong visual like that is much better in helping them understand it isn't what you put into your wardrobe but what you put into the sport that counts! Regarding your man about town , I hope he's got a saddle with a very serious cut out. I recently read an article about the wrong type of saddle causing erectile dysfunction in men. I only can imagine a G-string might cause undue stress in all the wrong places. He might do better, as long as he's going this far to use body paint instead. From what I understand about it, it gives a very grand illusion. Incidentally, just how cold is it in your neck of the woods?

It's like going to USC while wearing a Texas Longhorn jersey. But only other cyclists will know. Everybody else will just think you're one of those wacky cyclists, just as they always have.

I ride an Orbea and so my team jerseys are Team Jelly Belly and Euskaltel Euskadie.

I have no problem with people wearing team jerseys, it's no different than wearing a Dallas Cowboys jersey or a Yankees cap. I wouldn't wear a TDF yellow, green or polka dot jersey or the local club jersey unless I was on the team. But nobody is going to confuse me with Iban Mayo because of the jersey I'm wearing. 😄

And just because somebody is wearing full Disco kit and riding a shiny new Madone doesn't mean they can't ride.

  13. Here in Spain it's interesting to see good riders wearing anything but team-sponsored jerseys. Those that appear in the full team regalia tend to be overweight German tourists.

I was out yesterday in Spiuk winter kit (a Spanish brand) when the entire Quickstep team went past me on one of their training rides from their Calpe base - very smart they looked to.

  14. Awesome, that's not an everyday experince, did you see Bonnen in there?

Boonen was probably there but I couldn't pick him out. I had been out doing a 70km ride in 2hrs and was on the final 2km climb when they swept past me and reminded me how fast an easy ride is for these guys.

As far as an everyday experience goes, at the moment it actually is. Quick Step have come through my home town of Denia every morning this week before heading into the mountains. The area is popular with a number of teams and with the Tour of Majorca and Tour of Murcia coming up in the next few weeks we get to see plenty of the pros in and around the area (east coast of Spain between Alicante and Valencia). It is great to see while on the road, makes me smile.

  16. I wear my team jerseys about half the time (Ogden One Cycling Club), and a quarter of the time I wear my Torelli clothing, because it's beautiful (Parentini) and Chairman Bill is my BRO and was my training partner before I moved away. The rest of the time I wear a Huntsman World Senior Games jersey because I helped design it, and it's pretty kewl.

I don't feel right wearing pro team jerseys, but that is my hangup. Some of them are great looking. And I won't wear anything that says Shimano on it, because I am a Campy Record-riding WOP!! Okay, that's another hangup of mine. I admit, I need professional help... :p
