Record/Chorus compatable?

Yes, as will a Centaur 10s.

Chorus and Record are almost transparent as far as compatibility. You can freely swap out any part for part and not worry. I have several bikes with both double and triple crank setups. I run 13/29 on both bikes. With a long cage I have no worries, but I also run a 39/53 front chain rings with the 13/29 cogs with a short cage RD. I am just careful not to use the 53 with the 29...Why would I ever do that anyhow??? It wouldn't break if I did but it would not be good to do.

All Campagnolo 10 speed parts are compatable with each other. Record cassettes come in all titanium or a titanium/steel mix. Chorus and lower are all nickel plated steel. You might as well save yourself $50 and get the Veloce cassette. It's listed as only being 30g heavier than Chorus.

One more question, are the Lock-rings interchangeable between Rocord and Chorus?

When I change from Cassette to Cassette I won't have to worry about re-setting the Rear DA will I? 😕

The lock ring is part of the hub, not part of the cassette. You'll use the one you already have. You shouldn't have to adjust the rear derailleur, as the spacing is the same. If you've got a lot of miles on the old cassette, you might want to grab a new chain to use with the new one.

The only issue with the lock ring is when you go to a cogset that starts at 11 teeth. On the compatibility of campy parts record and chorus are virtually identical except for small parts and Record has ceramic bearings on the rotating parts. The area where other gruppos differ is mainly the crank sets. The BB for Centaur (Daytona), Veloce, Mirage are all different than the Chorus/Record for both the double and triple. It doesn't mean you can't cheat a little if you know what you are doing. I bought a chorus/record mix triple gruppo and made the mistake of buying a 175mm instead of my normal 170mm crank size thinking the added leverage would be better for the mountains. Big mistake! My hips would get sore and fatigue faster. I happened to have a Centaur crankset that was 170mm so I installed it on the record triple 111 assymetric BB. It did change the chain line toward the inside but after 5k miles is working just fine. And I've had no adverse physical problems. I find that the mechanical workings, smoothness of operation, and compatibility of the top 3 (Record, Chorus, and Centaur) all basically the same. Having 5 road bikes with these 3 gruppos in double and triple configuration and a 6th bike with a 1990 C-Record gruppo I have a difficult time dicerning much difference between the bikes except for weight of the bikes. The mechanical operation of my 1990 C-Record group is still flawless after over 15 K miles. I've replaced chains, chain rings and cassettes on the bike nothing else has failed. I know that eventually I will have to rebuild the ergo shifters so I purchased an index gear and springs (I may never have to use them) so my 8spd C-record should run forever. Campy still can be rebuillt and Shimano has to be replaced at a much higher cost. That is why I select Campy. Both are fantastic mechanically.

But anyway, the reason I was asking is that I'm going to do Haleakala Mountain in Maui this coming march with Donny Arnault,(OK maybe not WITH, probably a long way behind, but you get my drift) so I thought the 13/29 would kinda help me along...I'll try and do lots of climbs with my 12/26 untill then and swap it out the day before the BIG one... 😉 So I should just beable to spin up it no problem then...Yeah right :o

I spoke to Donny today and he said I should be just fine with that kinda gear set-up....I swapped out my smaller chainring a while back to an even smaller one..it wasn't easy to do do with the Integrated Crankset on my Six13 but my LBS had an answer...I went from a 39 to a 38 (I think) but it did make a difference on some of the climbs around here....

You should have an easy time of it. In 1969 I rode up the same ride on a surfer bike a JC Higgins with a 3 speed sturmey archer on a moonlite night. It was a fantastic ride but more work than I care to remember. Got to the top at about 3AM after starting at 5PM the night before. The sunrise is one of the great experiences I remember to this day. Da kine bra!

You rode at night? That's a good idea!!

I'm really looking forward to the ride up but wouldn't mind doing the sunset/ride down thing as well...we'll see how it goes...
