I heard a snippet of whining on the news the other day about people being
upset that they weren't going to be allowed to rebuild in the most
flood-prone areas.
I'm still trying to parse this complaint.
Dally-English Translator: "I'm still trying to figure out how this
disgusting manifestation of an Entitlement Driven Socialistic Nanny State
isn't the fault of my political philosophy, and that of my Democratic
Party."
Well, that too. But I'm stuck with the part that they're insisting on
building on unsuitable land that they OUGHT to be insisting would be a
crime to build on.
Around here we don't build on the flood plains. Flood plains flood.
Poor people who have to live on flood plains are being ill-served by
zoning regulations.
But these people are insisting on building in flood plains. Who's that
stupid?
It's a level of "disgusting manifestation of an Entitlement Driven
Socialistic Nanny State" that I can't fathom. Maybe it's because
they're stupider than the ones around here. Around here they'd be
insisting that the GuvMint give them BETTER land.

In Star Trek V, "The final frontier", Spocks half brother asked a man
"are you really going to kill me over a field full of dry holes" and the
man replied "It's all I have"...
It's all they have/had David.
The government won't pay them for it.
Where are they supposed to go?
Where are they supposed to build?
While I do NOT support them rebuilding houses in a flood plain,
(that land should never have been sold to build in the first place),
I have to understand their attitude.
They are the poor and destitute.
That lond was all they had.......
Now they have nothing.
What do you suggest they do?
