  1. Just found this and was amused:
    http://www.racelistings.com/home.htm

    Event: Roller Racing
    When: Tuesday, January 17th, 2006
    Time: Racing begins 7:30 pm
Where: Brooklyn Brewery, #1 Brewers Row, 79 North 11th St, Brooklyn NY,
    (718)486-7422
    Directions: visit www.brooklynbrewery.com for directions

Check out the fastest road to nowhere. Speeds in excess of 50mph are
routinely reached in thrilling head-to-head matchups on the classic
Barelli Quadrulet Competition Rollers with Dial Face. Up to four racers
can square off in a single heat where their silky smooth strokes will
    be put to the test.

Come Race or Spectate. Both will have ample opportunities to sample
Brooklyn Brewery's best. Whether you like your brew light or dark,
Brooklyn has the taste for you.

I hope they have quite a few buckets available. Nothing like doing
over the limit efforts powered by good beer. Especially when your last
sprint or interval for those wussies who don't do cross was months ago.
Love to be there and watch the show. Hope they have an open, do
whatever it takes, Bike Messenger class too.

Now here's an event that shows the greatness of cycling. Screw Lance and all
those guys with foreign names, having a race in a brewery, now that's the ticket
I want, that's what belongs on ESPN.

(Can't believe this stuff is showing up now, I wrote it friday or
saturday) If they could figure out some sort of ejection seat mechanism
that'd toss the rider off into a sandpit or something when it became
clear they weren't going to podium they could run it with bullriding on
OLN. Then they could put together a reality show based on a small
domestic pro team. You start rounding up some of the real characters
out there and throw 'em together with say Saunders as team leader,
that'd make some dysfunctional reality tv especially if you throw in a
fake sponsor that bails mid-season just to add some stress. Get heather
as a soignuer and Henry to run the women's side of the team.
Gotta be better than "Beyond the Bull".

They need Mad Dog there to show them how rollers
are SUPPOSED to work, especially if you're drunk.

I think he'd prefer to run the fatty master side of the team.

Guess we could settle that "seven foot skidmarks when I rode off the rollers"
    argument over in rbt.

What argument? That was 500 people telling one person that he was
    bullshitting.

Well, there were two sides to the issue, so they should get equal

Man, that's so PC it's disconcerting.

The fact is he conveniently omitted an important piece of information
that would have prevented the whole argument in the first place. That's
the only coverage his side needs.

I didn't mean it that way, I meant it to parody the lameness of too
much mass media in the US, which just puts back talking points of two
sides of each issue rather than actually trying to find out what is
    correct.

Way too many people are lazy and pick their favorite news oultet or
talking head to tell them what's correct, and the talking heads usually
do a good job of making their case, but unless you're an idiot what
someone else thinks is correct isn't going to be what and how you think
it's correct. Let's face it anything related to human action makes the
actions described by Heisenbergs little theory and Chaos theory look
    simple and predictable.
I hate the concept of moral relativism but it's undeniable in the real
world. The concept of "Truth" is pretty tough to pin down too when you
toss humans into the mix so I'm much happier to have journalists
telling me What, When, Where, Who, but the last thing I need is for
them to tell me why, and even worse deciding "why" before they write
they story and selectively writing their "hard news" story to fit their
concept of why it happened, usually leaving out, or minimalising
anything that doesn't fit with their why.
This goes with a conversation Howard and I are having about news and
bias due to a questionable UCLA study on bias in the news. Every outlet
is going to be biased to some degree, that's impossible to avoid. My
argument, and the studies finding, was that the major media outlets
were mostly biased to the left. I believe that because from the late
60s on and especially after Watergate both the teaching of Journalism
and the "sexy" side of journalism was on the left. One of the opposing
arguments is that, since they are all corporate controlled, they are
right leaning capitalist tools so they can't be leftist. My response is
that the first thing corporations care about is the dollar. They are
going to take the slant that allows them to sell the most copies
etc...in their market, no matter the ideology. Whwere this falls down
is going after the corporate/business tpyes because that hits too close
to home, but sure as hell applies to social and political stories and
    op-eds.
The Union Leader in Manchester NH was a notorious and powerful force
from the right forever, but as the demographics of the cities of New
Hampshire in general, and Manchester in particular became more
Democratic/liberal they have really toned it down and moved towards the
center, because that's what sells to thier current audience.
I don't see Fox as being any farther to the right than CNN is to the
left, and they were both run by serious activist/extremist types. I'm
just happy to have adversarial journalism instead of the one
sided/party [censored] we had nationally for decades. Neither one may have
the "truth", but both will give you pieces the other didn't and that
gets us a little closer to what actually is. There is nothing sadder
than only reading, listening to, or watching what you agree with.
Unfortunately there's way too much "wisdom" being tossed around by like
minded morons who never discuss rationally with anyone who has a
    different point of view.
Thinking for yourself seems to be a dying concept, especially in the
propaganda purveyed as fact Red/Blue war, everyone seems to want to
line up and let their little Goebbels writing for the progressive
Pravda shape their Brave New Worlds.

I was thinking about this recently. MD kept adding details and subtly
changing the story. Stonewalling here and there... I thought that I'd seen that
somewhere before. Then it hit me. Mad Dog is Scott McClellen. Has to be!

How can you suggest that the media swings left when they are so
    willing to quote Pat Robertson?

    Curtis L. Russell
    Odenton, MD (USA)
    Just someone on two wheels...

  17. Yeah, all that skin just drives him wild.

  18. "I didn't mean it that way, I meant it to parody the lameness of too
much mass media in the US, which just puts back talking points of two
sides of each issue rather than actually trying to find out what is
    correct."

I assume you believe that you can trust Dan Rather to do your thinking
    for you?

The PROBLEM is that the mass media interjects their own opinions
instead of giving us the facts.

  19. There isn't any question that the news is heavily biased to the left
and all you have to do is hang out in ANY newspaper or TV hangout and
    listen to them talking.

The only thing that the UCLA study was attempting to find was whether
or not the media was MORE biased that the members of Congress that the
VOTERS put into office. And of course they are. Why? Because the media
doesn't have to made everyone happy.

There are other reasons - journalists as a group are pretty worthless
at doing anything but shooting off their mouths. Hey, there's a market
for loudmouths and that's fine but they are nothing but pretenders to
knowledge and not knowledge itself. If you can't really do anything you
grow up believing that no one else can either and that the world works
by The Loud Mouthed Gazette and Magic.

The end result of all of this is that we're seeing on TV and in the
newspapers the way the world looks to stumblebums. And stumblebums
believe that we all have to pull together to get anywhere because they
understand that if they weren't given everything they'd be sitting in a
gutter someplace. In most people's understanding (most people being
able to actually do something in the world) that is socialism and is
    LEFT politically.

Should we be surprised that the press and TV are inhabited almost
    solely by leftists?

  20. Quoting the most outrageous stuff that a nutcake has to say makes you
think that they're trying to SUPPORT him?
