3 speed handlebars?

I think they give any bike the punk... "thing". It's a slightly
childish, macho/effeminate swish to fashion/antifashion, much as most
of the old school punk I still listen to was (see "Johnny Thunders"😉.
Take a Stumpjumper, add some 3 speed bars, and all of a sudden it's a
whole different cat. Just like you can get a mohawk and a
mall-purchased anarchy shirt all of a sudden you're, like, so totally
punk rock.

I know a few sources for steel bars, but you probably don't want those
heavy things. I have three sets here, one Schwinn Speedster set, a set
from a '61 Hercules and an set from an older Schwinn Co-Ed. I'm going
to build up a fixie for the road with an old Schwinn Varsity frame and
will probably use teh Co-Ed bars for that.

No, I'm going to go with a regular short reach, shallow drop bar but I'm
looking to go as cheaply as possible or I'd look at the Midge. So I was
looking at the cheaper Salsa Bell Laps. I could use my current Nitto
Dirt Drops but I find the drop too deep and the reach too far on my
Bontrager. The latter problem may be because I have too long of a top
tube and stem combo due to the mtn bike geometry.

Yeah the midges are pricey and when you add the cost of brakes , shifters,
stem and cables converting to drops ain't cheap. But you're building from
the ground up aren't you? If you have to get all that stuff anyway a few
extra bucks for bar that you like isn't so bad.
