I was reading the " 'Bent Thefts and Robberies in The City?" thread. In one
post somebody mentioned that they feel safe by riding a fixie.
I wonder who....... 😉

thief? Or, at least, a fixie being stolen?
Fixies and single gears get stolen all the time here in the city. But
they do have several advantages over regular bikes when it comes to
locking them outside.
- Very clean looks. No flashy-looking derailers/shifter/multiple-gears,
and in quite a few cases, not even brakes!
- No quick releases. If you're gonna try to steal the wheels or seat,
you'll need a wrench.
- since they have fewer components, its easier to lock all of the
expensive parts together. With a 6-foot kryptonite chain, I can lock
both wheels, the frame, the chain, and the chainring&cranks to a thick
light post. The only things a thief can take without cutting that heavy
chain are the seat, pedals, or handlebars.
A fixie is also a bit more intuitive when riding in traffic. Once you
get used to it, its very easy to judge and modulate your speed just by
the speed of your legs.
