I am trying to find a back rest for a tag along system so I can take my son out cycling. I want him on a tag along rather than a seat as I think it will be more fun for him, but have seen a couple of kids falling asleep on the back of them and about to fall off on A roads!! I would like to add a little more security as he is still quite young. I think other people have used them for older disabled kids too.
Adams used to make a back rest which attaches below the child's bike seat, and provides a back rest with straps to hold them in place for more security. I am really struggling to find a UK provider, so if anyone knows where I can get one or has another solution to safer tag along riding, i would really appreciate it. thanks!🙂

I may misunderstand your question, but I would suggest that if a child is not old enough to stay awake and alert for the duration of the ride, that they are not quite old enough for a tag along system and perhaps would be better in a pull-behind trailer. Or alternatively the rides are too long for the age of the child. It seems to me that an asleep child strapped to a tag along bicycle is a dangerous situation.
My children (age 2.5 and 5.5 years) love being pulled in the trailer, and occasionally my younger one falls asleep in it. I think that by next year my older one will be ready for a tag along. I am using a an indicator of her readiness her ability to ride her own bike, with the tag along a way to keep the family together and to allow the child to go a bit faster or farther or to ride on roads than they otherwise might on their own.

My son is 3.5, but the size of a 4-5 year old, so too big for a seat in my opinion, and I think he would be bored in a trailer as he is confident riding his own bike, with stabilisers. Of course I would not take him on long journeys where I would expect him to fall asleep or put him in any danger. He has friends of the same age who go on Trail Gators on short trips in the town or in the New Forest where we live. I think he is old enough and capable enough to ride a trail along and think he would love it like his friends. I have seen people out with little ones on trail gators who have not looked safe, which is why I was looking for a little added safety.
