  1. Having started semi-regularly doing the Richmond -> Sunshine run I'm
looking for a better way to get from the end of the yarra trail to the
    docklands trail.

Playing slalom with all the peds on that long Southbank section is
giving me the [censored], and damaging my average speed ;-)

Any better suggestions? To be honest I would rather not go too far out
    of the way.

BTW absolutely loving the ride, though.. was heading home late last
night and there's so much cool stuff to look at on the way. And stuff
    all traffic at night.

    Cheers,
    Jules

You could ride along the Merri Ck route and join Footscray Rd at the
    freeway overpass, maybe?

Well, sorta. I've done the Capitol city trail which branches off the
Merri ck trail and joins Footscray Rd around Kensington, it's just
going around the other side of the city than via Southwank. From
    Richmond it might be workable.

    you still sound lost.

MCk Trail stops/starts at Dght Falls in Abbotsford, doesnt go near Kensington...

are you thinking the Moonee Ponds Ck Trail or Perhaps the Maribyrnong River trail?

Aren't they the same one? It joints the Capitol City trail which ends
    up at Footscray Rd.

  7. How about the north side of the yarra river?
Although you're playing russian roulette at the Flinders street station enterance near the bridge with peds.

All bike trails lead TO the city, but no real bike path travels THROUGH the city...
Hitting the roads you'll get the traffic & lights which will almost double your time I reckon.

Now that the Eureka building is finishing up the bottleneck at Queensbridge is gone.

PS: Do you think the deepening groove along the Exhibition buildings will finally cause the penny to drop?

You may be thinking of the Inner Circle Trail that forms part of the
    Capitol city trail.
Starts at Rushall Station (Beside the Merri Ck trail) and continues west
parallel to Park St then under Royal Pde then follows the Upfield line from
Royal Park Station to Flemington Bridge Station.

    Nope!

It's been like that for years. Sucks on a roady in winter ... very
    interesting ride.

Ahh I was wondering about this.. so it is possible to ride the full
length of it, to the Docklands trail?

Yeah that's just bloody ridiculous. Maybe they'll get the idea if we do
a few runs with knobblies, lots of rear brake, and tear all the grass up ;-)

  11. The "North side of the Yarra " path only goes from under Fed Sq in the East to Queensberry Bridge St on the West side. From there you'll need to cross QueensBerry St & take Flinders St west to Docklands or jump over to the south side of the river to continue West to Jeff's shed & beyond.

I bet they'll install an elevated chain fence at the grass area next to Exhibition building to ward off bikes accessing that area, just like they did for the grass area near the river bridge @ Southbank where buskers take up all the paved area (and passing traffic - peds/bikes have to hit the grass to get by).

I attempted to dodge the busker crowd & jump the metal 1/2 hoops (the low bit) around that grassed area on the commuter MTB once & became just another crowd pleaser..... :o

That sounds right. I know I've ridden it lots to get to a friend's
    place in Williamstown.
