  1. Hey now, I've been on SCD for the past 3 years, and its nothing even
    close to Atkins.

The main difference between Atkins, and SCD, is this.....

Atkins people count carb points, SCD people DO NOT count points.

Atkins people eat any type of carb they want, they just have to count
    the points for it.
SCD people, however, exclude "specific" types of carbs from the diet,
    thats ALL we do.
We exclude what we call "complex" or "chain molecule" sugars and
    carbohydrates from the diet.

This isn't any more restrictive then Atkins, because there are recipes
for breads, cereals, yogurts, all sorts of things that aren't covered
under Atkins. Basically, there's a recipe for "everything" except
chocolate, but we have brownies, cookies, cakes, all sorts of stuff.

The thing thats bad about Atkins, is the high amounts of Protein.
High amounts of Protein, are not safe for the liver and kidneys,

we on SCD, don't take this approach, we simply excluse complex and
chain molecule sugars from the diet, which never hurt anyone, because
its what the small intestines absorbs and exits as waste material thru
the large intestines anyway. We still get sugar in our diet, the
allowed sugars are "natural" sugars, found in fresh fruits and
vegetables, bananas, honey, anything thats got "natural" sugar in it.
Man-made, or table sugars, is what we stay away from. Only
disadvantage of the diet is everything has to be prepared homemade,
which isn't a big deal since alot of diets are like that.

You guys can find out more about this diet at my forum:
    http://www.crohnsdaily.com

I have Crohn's Disease, which is how I got started on the diet in the
first place, since things like immune suppressors, Remicade, Asacol,
antibiotics, etc don't work very well for me.

The idea behind SCD is quite simple:

"by excluding table-sugars from the diet, we attempt to starve the bad
bacteria in the body. This apprach, helps to balance out the bacteria
levels in the body, responsible for intestinal disorders and
inflammation. Once the bad bacteria is being starved, then we use
whats called Acidophilus, to get the good bacteria back into the body,
that the bad bacteria and antibiiotics stole from us to begin with.
This disruptive bacterial inbalance is whats believed to cause crohn's
disease and the immune system to get all thrown out of wack so to
    speak"

Where do these brain-dead idiots come from? They could at least read up on
a subject before they run their mouth spreading grosss misinformation in
absolute, moronic ignorance of the subject. Even newbies to Atkins know
that it is high-fat, moderate protein, low carb. There is nothing "high
protein" about it. It is about reducing carbs, not increasing protein. And
even if it were -- which it is not -- high protein diets are perfectly safe
for anyone with normal kidneys or liver. I can't beleieve these freaking
trolls actually believe the utter nonsense that they try to spreadd!.

I guess that depends on how you define high protein. If you reduce
carbs, which for many was very high before starting LC, then the diet
has to shift to more fat and/or protein. Precentage wise, I would
expect that the diet of people following Atkins is significantly higher
in protein than it was before they started.

You clearly don't have the slightest clue what Atkins is. Are you
aware that there are books on the topic? You know. Printed
sheets of paper with cardboard covers. You do seem to have
read some of those book things on subjects other than Atkins,
so why not try the ones on Atkins?

Utter nonsense. Not what Atkins is combined with a completely
false statement about how non-Atkins effects organs.

Good stuff. You really need to stick with what you DO know so
you come across as a well informed expert rather than blithering
on about stuff you don't have a clue so you come across as an
idiot. Care to cut away all the incorrect commetary about Atkins
and repost only the stuff you do know about?

The parts about getting the balance of intestinal floral correct is a
small portion of the Atkins process and it is one of the parts that
is poorly written in the book. It doesn't seem like Dr A knew the
topic nearlyas well as you do. You should expand on that part
and completely drop your Atkins commentary.

anyways, atkin "IS" low carb, low fat, and "HIGH" protein!

Um, there's no way that Atkins is low fat. People can manage it so that it
is low fat, but Dr Atkins never designed it that way.

  7. Quit calling Atkins high protein, you TROLL!! You keep doing that around
here and you'll get your ass kicked!

    I don't think so.

It seems to me, on low-carb I eat way more of my diet as veggies.
Granted, that's not more in terms of percentage of calories, but as the
actual volume of food. Likely, the largest increase in a low-carb diet
for me is in fiber, vitamins and minerals.

In terms of calories, it's a high-fat diet for me. Raw veggies are
generally dressed with ranch dressing or oil and vinegar, cooked
veggies have butter added or are stir-fried in oil. I insist my
veggies be yummy, so if I'm eating sliced cucumbers, I'm dipping them
in sour cream. So, for me, eating more veggies increases my fat
    consumption significantly.

Given the actual serving size of meats, eggs and dairy that I eat, I
believe I'm ingesting *less* protein than on a high-carb diet. For
example, I could easily eat 8 oz of hamburger (or more) with buns
and/or fries, but 4 oz is satisfying stir-fried with a quarter of a
cabbage head, some ginger, garlic and soy sauce.

My recent intake is about 60-70% calories from fat, 20-30% from protein
and 10-15% from carbs at 1300-1500 kilocalories. I am not restricting
calories, just that the high level of fat and large bulk of veggies
results in a relatively low-calorie diet.
