Browsing though a review of a "Rough Guide" survival guide prompted me to
think about the sort of daft things these guides write in their pages in
order to pad them out a bit. I came up with a couple of useful tips on
what not to do., like if you find someone about to die of hypothermia, don't
give them a hot chilly to suck in the hope that it will warm them up. It
will probably have the same effect as a brandy, increasing the risk of
hypothermia. My other useful tip is that, although superglue may be used to
block the vas deferens in a mans scrotum for purposes of preventing sperm
release during intercourse ( a vasectomy procedure), it should not be used
in a cut on the arm or leg as it will hurt and itch for days without in
fact sealing the wound. Finally, on the subject of superglue, don't carry
the tube version, in case you mislay it in a boot. If in a boot, you are
likely to step on it and empty its contents, resulting in a painful burning
sensation as your foot becomes firmly stuck to the inside of the boot.
