How Many Saddles Do You Own?

I think ya need to find a shop that offers an 'exchange for another'
program, as long as the saddle looks new-like most bike shops, like us.

But if it's MO, ya are kinda SOL.

9 here, but 6 are on my bikes and 3 are spare ones.

I've only got two--the Specialized Milano that came with my Sequoia
Elite, and the Selle Italia Max Flite Gel Flo that I bought, despite
the ridiculous name, to replace it.

The Milano was too squishy, and the Specialized Alias that I tried was
like a well-designed plank. The Selle Italia works just fine, I
appreciate the cutout, and I've no plans to replace it.

That said, I'd have searched for as long as it took to find the right
saddle. Especially if genital numbness had been involved. I can't
believe that anybody tolerates numbness in those parts.

A Brooks Flyer that's waiting for a bike where it looks nice, as it's
really not comfortable enough to justify its weight.

A spare vintage Selle Royal Prestige racing saddle.

Something cruel from an old German woman's bike that really should be
thrown away.

Peter's mostly right - a good LBS will allow exchanges. Also, Terry
used to offer a money-back guarantee on their mail orders, possibly they
still do. "For the rest of us, there's Ebay!" - a great place to unload
bad fits and find cheap new ones to try.

Specialized / WTB Pro-Long? Came on some early 90's higher-end
Specialized models and aftermarket. It's my favorite MTB saddle and I'd
love to squirrel away a spare.

As for your question, I don't think eight is unusual. It can take some
time to find a favorite. Since models change so fast these days, if you
find one you really like, buy a spare! I was on San Marco Strada's (
Titano 200 ) for a decade, but just fell in love with the Fizik
Aliente. Now I have a couple spare Stradas. They have unique
embroidery, so I'll probably keep 'em for fun.

Quick count: 10. Two installed on most-ridden bikes; seven in box in
garage; one on dining room table along with all sorts of other bike [censored] (I
always eat standing up).

Of course, that's not counting the 4 or 5 "high-end" saddles I've bought and
returned to Performance over the years.

PS: Until recently, I kept going back to a Terry Ti Race saddle that I got
for a net 10 bucks in the Performance Returns bin. However, I was having
hip, hamstring and knee issues (all on right side), so just bought a "Form
E-3" from 'em mail order. 187 grams, on sale for $60. So far it's really
helped, as its rather "radical" shape seems to have taken pressure off of
right sit bone/hip region, and the hammy and knee are both happier, too.

All subject to change, of course. Sigh.

Some saddles get a second life. This year, my old saddle (rode 2 over 13
years), the original San Marco Concor, is back in production. Yeah, I'll
get one, and maybe I'll find it's like a girlfriend from long ago. Some
things change, including us.

I do. It came on my Stumpjumper FS and is now stored somewhere under the
house. You actually like that saddle? I remember looking at the reviews on
mtbr.com several years ago and laughed to find that it had the lowest reader
ratings of any saddle (plus many abusive comments). I had to agree.

I might have bought them. Got a few second stringers, not good enough to live on
one of the bikes, but not bad either. They usually get to try out new frames and
get another chance at a full-time job. The pattern I've noticed lately is the
ones without relief slots are the ones in the box. Some otherwise comfy ones,
but the slot is just the next step up.

If it does not fit, I do not sit. Nor do I keep it around to remind
me of just how much I hated it.

I've replaced the saddle on nearly every bike I've had in recent
years, but usually just once.

I have negative three. I need another WTB Rocket V, Power V, and Speed V to
complete my conversion to choad nirvana. The WTB V-series is obviously my
top choice.

Saddles that don't work go straight to eBay.

Andrew Lee, next time you root-around under the house, look to see if
it's a Ti railed, made in Italy model with a leather cover. There were
el-cheapo look alikes on some bikes, but I think the Stump had the real
deal.

Theres no accounting for taste or saddle preference, eh? It's big and
well padded with firm padding, love it on my full sus bike where I stay
seated more often than on a hardtail. I still have a San Marco Strada
on the hardtail, Fizik Aliente on road and cross. I used to be a
staunch believer in same saddle for every bike, but in the last couple
years I've come to believe that different saddles do work better for
different styles of riding fo me. Cheers.
