I have been really good. I have lost weight. I fit into 36s again; a
pants size I have not fit into for years. I even quit smoking!
Part of my weight loss is because I have gone to the gym. But now I
am slacking off. I'm eating too much cake and getting lazy!

Part of my weight loss is because I have gone to the gym. But now I
am slacking off. I'm eating too much cake and getting lazy!Everybody falls off the wagon. The trick is to get some skills in
climbing back on again. Like anything else, the more you practice it,
the easier it gets to do the next time. One thing I typically do is to research a new regimen or pick a new
training goal and pick a date and start it. HST is a good choice
because it's for people who aren't beginning weightlifters, and built
into it is a lovely concept called 'stragetic deconditioning', where you
are supposed to have a layoff from the gym and a refeed. Um, sure, I
can handle that. (I absolutely love that it's actually PART of healthy
training!)Another option is to try doing some baby steps. Start drinking your
water again. Start reading your fitness newsgroups or magazines. Show
up at the gym for what I call 'bootstrapping' workouts. I had a bad
bout with a cold and asthma a few weeks ago that left me incapable of
running three miles. I've been bootstrapping myself back up to distance
and pace by doing a bit further/longer every day, starting with jog 3
minutes and walk a minute. (Yesterday I was jogging 10/walking 1 -
progress is steady with this method.)I find boostrapping to be ignoble - I'm embarrassed that I can't just
jog for 30 minutes right now - but it's better to get the gym and do
what you CAN do rather than sitting around on the couch whining about
how out of shape you are.Quoted message said:

No. You're going to have to do that yourself.

To put it another way. Imagine an orkplace where you were the only non
executive: Make them all CEO. Give them all at least one Masters degree
and/or a PhD, and the ego trip that comes with that. Now double it.
That's education. --GB, asr
