Henry loves to classify himself as a "progressive," and he always
cites "progressive" web sites, like CommonDreams.org. But when it
comes to the real issues, nobody defines "progressive" policies.
At first blush, one might think that "progressives" are defined by
hatred, since Henry and his ilk spend most of their time spewing about
how they hate the presidential administration of George W. Bush. But
in all fairness, I'll assume there's more to it than that.
I thought I might find something definitive at the Principles Project,
under their so-called "Declaration of Progressive Priniciple," but all
they really give you is some feel-good cheerleading with vague and
amorphous discussions of their desires "to defend dignity, to
strengthen democracy, to promote progress and to embrace leadership."
Not a damn thing about the day-to-day policies of government, which is
what the so-called "progressives" are always ranting about.
So I decided to look around and see what I could find about
"progressive" policies on some of the real governmental issues that
so-called "progressives" rant about on Internet forums. Maybe Henry
will have the courage to address some of these:
As to private property, "progressives" seem to be saying:
[1] They want everyone to keep the property he or she has acquired,
according to the principle that benefit to the community precedes
benefit to the individual.
[2] By the same token, they believe that the state should retain
supervision over the use of private property.
[3] They believe it is the duty of a property owner not to use his
property against the interests of others amongst the people.
True?
As to war profiteering, "progressives" seem to be saying that, because
war imposes great sacrifices in life and property upon the people,
personally profiting from war should be considered a crime against the
people.
True?
As to gun control, "progressives" seem to be saying that comprehensive
gun registration will make our streets safer and our police more
efficient.
True?
Are these really the values in which your "Enlightened Progressives"
believe?
