Au contraire, I woulda thought that blinkenlights and attention-grabbing
silliness would enhance one's chances of survival, and probably offsets the
additional neck-snapping risk of the extra weight.

OK. The point of a cycle helmet is what, precisely? Oh, yes, to protect
your head in minor impacts without causing you to overheat. That's what
all those massively expensive vents are all about, isn't it? So these
things cover up the vents, and cause overheating. But they do worse than
that: they have an irregular, matt surface, which will increase the
friction between the helmet and the road surface if you should get
knocked off, which will increase the angular acceleration, which will
quite literally scramble your brains.

/If/ you are going to wear a cycle helmet for safety reasons, for
heaven's sake don't use anything like this on them.

I saw HMHB last night and they did a rousing chorus of "WTFH are
Slipknot?" I wouldn't usually be so foul-mouthed in a public place
but I do love a good singalong.
