Scooter Pies

Suddenly I spied Scooter Pies! Wow! Grabbed up a box of
them, of course.

Well, I caught on it wasn't going to be a trip down memory lane when
I pulled one out of the box. Small. Tiny. Well, you all know,
that's the way it goes, that's okay. Took a bite ... tried to take a
bite ... gave up trying to take a bite ... I don't think they were
rock hard when I was a kid. (laugh) I couldn't bite into it more
than through the 'chocolate' coating. Solid.

Tossed them out, so much for nostalgia.

LOL! I remember Scooter Pies. The thing that would probably bring back
your memories (even if you never had one) is a Moon Pie.

The same thing has happened to many products over the decades. I hadn't
eaten a Hostess cupcake (chocolate with the cream filling and chocolate
icing) or a Twinkie in years. On a whim, I bought a box of each of them to
take on an outing where packaged food was just more convenient. God, they
were awful, and I wasn't the only who thought so, as we all remembered how
they used to taste. Personally, I was never overly fond of Twinkies, but I
really used to like the Hostess cupcakes. Bleh!

Amazingly enough, I recently saw this at a Houston Wal-Mart. We can
also find it at Central Market.

I know nothing about spagehettio's but.. did you change or did they?
I'm not convinced that manufacturers aren't putting more sugar in foods
today than in years past. I've ranted often about how sweet Campbell's
tomato soup has become. Quite disgusting, in fact. But I think they
changed the formula, not my tastes changed.

Oh, I know full well if what was in the box was exactly what I
got as a kid, I still wouldn't have liked it as well. You're right
about that.

These rocks were just plain awful, inedible, and teensy.

Yet another thing I tried as a result of discussions around here, damn
that's some bad stuff, but I can see that kids would like it, yup even me.
A friend's mother would give us ravioi in a can, I liked the cheese kind,
bet I would hate that today!

I think it's both, but I never underestimate the changing of tastes,
since virtually everything that was a staple of mine growing up is now
stuff I can't stand:

- Spaghetti-Os
- Toast with cinnamon sugar
- Cold bologna w/ relish
- Cottage cheese

That, and I really don't care for sweet stuff nearly as much as I did
when I was little, so I really notice sugar now.

I used to love ice cold cokes right from the glass bottle but now coke
tastes very syrupy. I don't know if it is me or them.
