What is the ideal distance from the spoke end to the rim surface (or
eyelet lip) where the tube will sit?
My LBS sold me a Mavic Ma2 rim I tried to build up before discovering
it was dead. So I brought it back, and the manager was gracious enough
to give me an Open Pro instead. Great rim, built up very nicely. The
thing is, I used the same spokes I had on the Ma2. The open pro is a
little deeper, and my concern was the spokes would be too long. LBS
measured, said there was a 2mm difference, wouldn't be a problem.
Well, the wheel's built up, but I'm not sure I like the look of the
spokes sticking out so much. They're not actually sticking OUT of and
ABOVE the eyelet, but it's close.
So my question is, how close can the spoke ends get to the rim surface
before I can expect getting flats all over the place?
