Why dont tri athletes ride campy?

prebuilt bikes tend to have Shimano on them.

the manufacturers and LBS a reason/incentive to push the campy.

One contributing factor could be that many events have Shimano mechanics
carrying Shimano spares on the course, they are also at the Expo in the
days leading up to the event and at bike check-in to attend to any last
minute adjustments or problems.

Notice that you have to get down to 8th place on the list before you find a
manufacturer that might put Campy parts on a bike. The bikes in first
through seventh place are all are mass-produced production bikes. The
question "why don't triathletes ride Campagnolo" is easy: most average joes
don't build their own bikes. Note too that this list is from IM Hawaii. If
people participating in the World Championship aren't building their own
bikes, what do you suppose the average Joes in Peoria are riding?

The question of "Why don't bike manufacturers use Campagnolo" is easy too:
economics. Imagine an average bike shop in Nowhere, USA. They're an
authorized dealer of Cannondale, Trek, Giant, Specialized, and Cervelo.
They have four or five good bike mechanics on staff who can each fix any of
the above bikes with their eyes closed. And then a rep from one of the
manufacturers walks in one day and tells them that, say, Specialized is
thinking of switching to Campy compoonents. I'll give you one guess what
the bike shope's reaction is going to be.

I think the demographics of the triathletes is such that they'll pay
someone to maintain their bikes. If they have extra time they won't
degrease the drivetrain they will train. As long as it's smooth, quiet
and light they don't care what name is engraved on the parts.

Pure cyclists are a different beast and may prefer Campy.

I don't know about others here in Czech, but I have Campa Record :-)
