I have an Appel steel lugged frame that I am trying to get any information on. It has really nice hand filed lugs and is built in the U.S. The bottom bracket shell is stamped ARC 2-1-87. The only Google reference to Appel that I can find is "Mike Appel" one of the orginal Trek frame builders. Not sure if he is the builder or not. Hopefully someone has some information that they might share.

Mike Appel was indeed one of the original Trek frame builders back when Treks were small production hand-brazed steel frames made in a barn in Wisconsin. Mike did build frames under his own label, and I bet that your frame was one of them.
