A few weeks ago the Observer on Sunday (a UK national newspaper) ran a lengthy article about the upcoming English translation of 'Il Cucchiaio d'Argento', aka 'The Silver Spoon'.
According to the article, The Silver Spoon is, 'a 55-year-old, hefty 1,264-page cookery book. They say that it's been the most popular recipe book in Italy since 1950 and is the book every bride is given on her wedding day. Now into its eighth edition, it's about to be published in English for the first time.'
So has you heard of this book? Is it really so very basic to Italian kitchens? Does every bride really receive a copy on her wedding day? More to the point, is it worth the 25 pounds that Phaidon are charging for it?

They are selling it at Amazon for $26.37 US. and here is something about it on NPR. Now I have seen on the web that they sell a new book: "il Cucchiaio d'Argento, primi piatti" (only recipe of pasta); I didn't know!!! Price on line is 29 ?, pretty like the volume of the general recipes! Look: http://www.cucchiaio.it/cucina/shopping/articolo.cfm?codice=31097 We must have both!!!!!! But now that I think, I remember that my mother-in -law has the first volume. I give a look on it this morning. Thank you for having given me the idea: now I know what I shall present her. Another thing! I don't thing that "Cucchiaio d'argento" is the gift for wives.
