might be worthwhile to check if you're BB is too short as well.

Trek has a stick-on small piece of curved aluminium to protect the
carbon-fibre chainstay on OCLV. I think you can buy it as a separate item.

My old Miyata Elevation 1000 has a very effective anti-suck chainstay
guard that's made from a solid block of plastic. It would be easy to
duplicate it by whittling one from a piece of one of the cheap white
plastic 1/2"-thick cutting boards widely available from Wal-Mart (and
such); mounted where a kickstand would be clamped, shaped to follow
the two tubes and extend over to about 3 mm from the sprockets, it
would be very effective at keeping the chain from hitting the stay,
the same as the one that Miyata installed on mine from the factory.

webspace later in the week.
