I also heard that if you buy any DURA-ACE from ebay or anywhere else without the original box they will not warranty it. That doesn't make any sense to me. What happens to the bikes that come with shimano shifters and FSA cranks? According to Shimano that is in violation of they warranty policy...

I paid $222 for a new set of Record 10 levers and $108 for a Record 10 crankset (also new). Campy kills you on the stuff that wears out though ($220 for a record cassette, 40-50 for a chain..).
Campy Record and Shimano Dura Ace, despite what people think, are pretty similar in price.....so much so, that it really doesn't make any difference if you have the dosh to buy either one. That Campy somehow is a lot more expensive than Shimano is not true anymore.
As for Campy stuff that wears out being expensive, well, that's kack. A Record drive train w/ Centaur cassette works as well as one w/ a Record cassette. Better yet, there are aftermarket Campy-compatible cassettes out there.
As for Shimano not warranteeing stuff without boxes.....if you buy a bike from a dealer, that dealer can handle any Shimano issues for you. Shimano won't warrantee stuff w/out boxes, bought on eBay, because they don't know how many owners the stuff has been through and their prolly tryin' to cut down on bootleg sales.

I was speaking Record for Record with replacements. Chorus makes an excellent cassette (I happen to use one) for about $90 less than record. All you save with Record is about 40 grams. Most full groups now come in at about the same price between Record and DA10.

You're right about that. For what a Record cassette costs, you can some high zoot cassette that weighs less, if that's what trips someone's trigger.

You can buy the entire Dura Ace grouppo, with box, for just a little over the prices you quoted for shifter and cranks alone.
