I'm coming to Canberra in January to see the in-laws. Could someone tell me if it's possible to hire a cheap roadbike for a few weeks and if so where from?
Also, does anyone fancy meeting up for a ride / show me around etc.

I would like to take you out but i will only be in Back in Canberra for three days in January as I am heading back to SA for the Tour Down Under.
But in relation to bike hire try local bicycle association pedal power, there website is www.pedalpower.org.au
Thank you.🙂 Actually I'd forgotton about the TDU, might be nice to go down there if I get time.

I would highly recomend going. Also on the Friday they have the Be Active Tour, costs you about $100, and you get to do the same route as the guys on the tour. It may seem alot but you get a really cool jersey (high quality) and full support along the way, food, water, sports drink the lot.
I have been on the last two and it was one of the best just go for it rides I have ever been on. 😄
Not from Canberra, but visit a few times a year. Great city for cycling, with paths EVERYWHERE.
Nice ride is to follow the path around Lake Burley Griffin - around 25-35km depending on which bridges you use to cross the lake. A few hills to climb as well - Mt Ainslie and Black Mountain are easily accessible from the main part of town. There are quite a few bike shops - should have no problem finding one when you get there. Lots of off road stuff too.
