I thought I would send this real example of goodness in human nature.
Yesterday my son was cycling to college when his clear safety glasses fell
off. They went under the wheels of a car which was following very close
behind Nathan so he knew he had lost them. Think sound effect of shattering
lenses. Son was not a happy bunny.
I put a note of this on an Internet cycling newsgroup I subscribe to. That
same night, one of the guys on the group put a replacement pair in the post
for my son. They arrived this morning in time for him to wear on his cycle
commute to college this morning. How lovely that someone went out of his way
to make sure that my son had eye protection as quickly as possible.
The offspring arrived home from college this evening. Apparently on many
days he cycles by a family taking their dog out for a walk. Tonight, the mum
of the group flagged him down. "Are these yours?" she said, holding out a
pair of clear lenses similar to the ones my son wears. She went on, "We
often see you cycling, and know you wear this sort of thing. We found them
yesterday and thought of you."
How *lovely*!!
They weren't the same, and my son said so, but then the Mum said, "well we
don't use them so you may as well have them." A chat was had where my son,
I'm pleased to say, thanked them for keeping their dog under good control
whenever he cycled by, as this is much appreciated. Dogs attempting to bite
the legs of a passing cyclist is no fun! So I am glad he thought to let the
people who had thought of him know that he really appreciated their kindness
in two ways.
